Time to Meet Dawn

As I’ve mentioned in a couple of my posts recently, I have added a kitten to my little household. She’s now about 3 months old. She was six weeks old when I got her in November which would put her date of birth around the first week in October. While still pretty wild most of the time she is beginning to settle down as she gets used to the world around her.

the adult cat, CookieWhile I enjoy her company, she’s also here as a companion cat to my adult cat Cookie. She’s 12 years old and has always had a companion either older or younger than her. Cookie doesn’t appear to be the most pleased of cats but is tolerating the presence of the kitten rather well. They do play at times although it does get rather rough and I have to take a close look to make sure it is play and not murder in progress. So far, so good.

That’s a picture of Cookie above. You can click on the picture to get a larger view. In fact, any of the pictures can be clicked for an enlargement.

She’s half siamese, her mother was a purebred. She got the siamese intelligence and the vocalness of them but has a pretty quiet temperment other than she doesn’t like being picked up and cuddled. She tolerates me doing so and then escapes first chance.

Dawn as I was leaving for LondonDawn on the other hand is a very cuddly kitten who will often insist on being picked up and held. She seems especially prone to doing this when I’m in the kitchen. I hear a little ‘mew’ from the floor and shortly after will experience her climbing my leg for attention. It really wasn’t surprising that when I left for London she was rather frantic as I loaded the truck with my luggage. The picture on the right shows what she was doing as I prepared to leave. She wasn’t exactly a happy kitty.

Cookie's brotherWhile down in London visiting my youngest sister and her family I was also visiting Cookie’s brother by another litter. His name is Angel. He’s shown here on the left. His companion cat, Molly is on the right. She’s a little character who has been known to climb the Christmas tree and belt the angel at the top in an effort to dislodge it. Trust us Molly, you don’t want to replace that Angel! The two of them are best buddies and look out for each other although they have their human, Megan well trained to do that job as well.

Dawn is happy now When I returned from London on Boxing Day I was met at the door by a dustbunny with legs who raced to the door, raced back to the living room and then back to the door before taking a quick trip to Cookie who had emerged into the living room and then racing back to me and leaping into my arms. I think maybe she was happy to have me home, as for Cookie, well that ‘welcome’ involves two to three days of her bitching at me for leaving her. As you can see, she’s a most happy camper settled in the arms of her human.

Why do I get this feeling she’s thinking about how to better train human not to leave her again?
