MyBlogLog — Interesting Concept
Jan 31
Before I talk about MyBlogLog, has anyone noticed that the days are getting longer? I have, makes me a happy camper. I rather like being able to leave the lights off longer, saves hydro.
Anyways, onward and upward. Did you happen to notice the funny little pictures that have started to appear in the sidebar? Those are the avatars of people who have visited me from a site called MyBlogLog, a social networking site which I’ve recently joined. The basic concept behind social networking is forming community based on share interests and ability to create a network of people.
I’ve looked at some of the social networking sites but have arrived at the conclusion that most of them would take more time than I have to offer in order to get full benefit from the site. MyBlogLog focuses their community concept from more than one perspective. I can add members as contacts and communicate with them via the site. The members can enter their blogs, regardless of how many they write and the blogs become ‘communities’ that other members can join and again discussion can take place.
One of the more popular widgets that the site offers is one in which you install some code into your blog and it will display the avatars and screen names of the members who have visited you. In order to build your network, you can view the contacts a member has, or the members who belong to the various communities and the communities they in turn belong to.
By using the interconnections between contacts and communities I can build my own network based on blogs that interest me and the writers of blogs that interest me. I find that I’m drawn to check my profile page frequently in order to see who has visited my profile or I can discover my newest visitors through the widget on my own blogs.
Don’t have a blog but want to join in? Go ahead, it isn’t required for you to have a blog.
