I have two cats, a thirteen year old half siamese tabby named Cookie and a seven month old part maine coon kitten named Dawn. Part of the siamese half that Cookie acquired is their penchant for being vocal. For several weeks, Cookie has been relatively quiet for her and more demanding of attention than is her norm.
Yesterday, the vocal side of Cookie (seen on the right) returned with avengence. Normally Cookie would take possession of my bed once I vacate it in the morning, burying herself into the covers and sleeping most of the day.
She was having no part of that yesterday, she spent the day ‘talking’ all over the house and baiting Dawn (seen on the left) to engage in scuffling with her. Of course that just broke Dawn’s heart. She loves a good scuffle and since she’s bigger than Cookie is, she can definitely hold her own. Read the rest of this entry »
Have you been facebooked? That has become an actual term these days, just like googling meaning to search. I’ve been on Facebook.com for a while now, still learning about it. One of the features there is the ability to join groups, there are thousands of them. I came across some today which are support groups for our forces serving Canada in Afghanistan.
Tim Hortons for Our Troops is a group whose purpose is to get Tim Hortons to have a day like they do for ’send a kid to camp’ where a portion of the proceeds go to kids programs. The group is asking Tim Hortons to do the same for the troops in Afghanistan. So far they have over 10,000 members. You need to be a member of Facebook to join but that is free. Well, it is about 3pm on Thursday and at this point in the day, I have only 9k steps for the day. I should be able to easily pass the 10k point but that falls a tad short of the 13-14k I’d like to be at. I’ve spent about 60 minutes in walk in place today.
Been working on writing for my blogs today so haven’t been up and moving around some. That is when I get appreciative of doing this walk in place. Without it, I likely would not have even broke 500 steps. Read the rest of this entry »

Saturday I was able to go for my weekly walk with my friend so by the time the day was over I had 11,106 steps. I was also feeling rather stiff so I gave myself some break time yesterday. Well, it is 1:30 on Monday and I’ve just broke 10,000 steps or 5.4km. I should be able to hit the 12k steps mark today. I would like to hit 15,000 steps by next Saturday.
I have to be mindful that when I’m walking or doing walk in place, that my feet are expecting a fair size load coming down on them on a regular basis. That doesn’t mean I shouldn’t use them, just be aware and try to avoid jarring the impact any more than needed. As I build up stamina I should build up some strength in the joints.
UPDATE: I did it, I broke the 12k steps mark today!… 12,214 to be exact and 6.4km distance. Let’s see, maybe 14k tomorrow? stay tuned..
This entry will be updated over the course of the day. I posted yesterday that I have been working on getting my activity level up through walk in place walking. While not a lot of people left comments, the entry had over 300 reads in less than 12 hours. I suspect I’m not alone in my need to get up and get moving no matter how large I am. In order to attain success, you need to declare the intent. So, I’m declaring. Read the rest of this entry »
Since Tuesday I’ve been out of the house only briefly that day to pick up mail from town but I have walked 10.5km. I think I’ve done pretty good for not leaving the house. The last couple of weeks or so I’ve been wearing a pedometer pretty well steady. When I first started wearing it, I was barely breaking 1000 steps in a day, not good considering the average for a somewhat sedentary person is 5,000 a day.
I know I spend a lot of time in a day at the computer which means I’m sitting down but since I’m a large person, I can’t afford to be THAT sedentary. Once a week I walk with a friend of mine, she’s very kind about stopping frequently because I’m out of wind due to my size and lack of exercise. Once a week is good, it is some exercise but it isn’t really effective exercise for someone who needs to improve. Read the rest of this entry »

I was into Whitby yesterday for lunch with a good friend. On the way back I decided to roll off the 401 and along the lakeshore from Newtonville east. It was a bright sunny day but rather chilly. I took my time along the road which is not heavily traveled as I was looking for photo subjects to aim my camera at. Sort of figured it was about time for me to stop using Dawn and Cookie as my main photo subjects and start finding a few others.
Near Port Hope I spotted the walkway over the railroad tracks. As I approached it just looked like a walkway jutting out into the space in front of me so it grabbed my attention. I pulled off the road so I could take a walk down towards it and soon discovered some other subjects to photograph. Read the rest of this entry »
