Groundhog Day Already

Man, I’m not doing very good on my goal of 300 more posts on this blog by the end of the year. A month has gone by already and all that I’ve posted has been memorial posts for Canadians killed in Afghanistan. We’ve lost five Canadians since Christmas, there have been four trips to the bridge made for them.
I’m praying we get past today and tomorrow so I can finally release the last one memorial from the top of the page and not have to replace it with a new one. Like the flag at the Branch, the memorial posts stay at the top of my blog until ten days has passed since the soldier died.
I started posting them after a big hoopla in Canada because the government halted the practice of lowering the flag on the peace tower when a soldier died. I decided that if we really wanted to show how much we cared, bloggers in particular could put their actions where their words were and put a post at the top of their blog.
So, what do I do special for Groundhog day? nothing actually but I needed a title and today is Groundhog Day, February 2nd and a month into the year already. Yesterday we got hit with a winter storm. It wasn’t record breaking as winter storms in Ontario go, but it managed to give me the perfect reason to stay home for the day.
The down side to the storm was that we had to cancel our monthly roast beef dinner. I made the call early, deciding that it wasn’t safe or fair to expect volunteers and the public to turn up in a storm to support the dinner. We’ll be able to go ahead with the brunch tomorrow morning, featuring pancakes and sausages.
Today is overcast but clear so far. I guess that means that the groundhog wont see his shadow today and more moderate weather should follow. Either way, winter will officially continue for another six weeks.
Lent starts next week, that is the fourty days leading up to Easter. Shrove Tuesday is obviously this Tuesday. There will be a pancake supper at the church on Tuesday. That is normally the day for my Branch Executive meeting so I’ve rescheduled it to Monday evening and made it joint with the Ladies Auxiliary.
Reminds me, guess I better wrap this up and get a note off to the Executive list reminding them of the meeting.
