PattiPersonal cats, cold winter air, ontario cottage
Well, spring has officially arrived at my house. I know that officially spring arrived at 7:45am on Thursday morning but in my house it arrives a bit differently.
See I live in a small ‘Ontario cottage’ which is a storey and half home. I’ve been told that in days gone by local taxes were assessed based on how many storeys your home was. By not building a full storey, people saved on their taxes while haivng space enough for their family. The half storey was usually used for sleeping space.
I sleep on the main floor and the half storey is used primarily for storage and extra sleeping space if I happen to have guests over, which is pretty rare.
Several years ago, I had my dad make me up a trap door that closes down over the stairs. It’s insulated on the topside so when I close it in the fall it slows down the ability for cold winter air to travel down the stairs running up my heating bill. I run a heater up there to keep the temp around 13C over the winter. More

They shall grow not old, as we who are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning
We will remember them

PattiPersonal canada geese, harry potter, harry potter books, lenten study, theological viewpoint
After what seemed like one of the most brutal January and some of February I’ve remembered in a long time, it does appear that spring is definitely in the air. Not only is there more daylight and the temperatures are not falling as far, especially at night, but today I stepped out the back door of my house to first the sound and then the sight of a gaggle of Canada Geese lifting off from the field next door.
We have had rain and some mild weather the last couple of days so the soil is exposed on the field. The field was harvested last fall but not ploughed so I expect there is seed for them to eat readily available and the rain would have left small puddles of water in the field. There is nothing that screams “Spring is almost here” to me than the return of the Canada Geese.
Having said that, I guess with southern songbirds having been found further north than their usual habitat due to climate change, it likely wont be long before the Canada Geese don’t make their traditional migration south. More

PattiPersonal hugging, hugs, soapbox, tweets, twitter
As you might have gathered from the headline, I’m heading into a bit of a soapbox rant. Before I do though, got something I want to share with you. As you know this past weekend was Valentines. I’m not a big fan of Valentines Day, mostly as it brings around a couple of bitter sweet anniversaries.
On the good side, on this date twenty-one years ago my nephew Maxwell was born. Hey Max, happy birthday dude. On the flipside, on the fifteenth, twenty-one years ago, my late husband had the heart attack that led to his death some eighteen months later.
Sometimes though, I come across something that I really can appreciate and this year is one of them. I’ve been messing about on the website Twitter for a while now. Two of the people I follow on there have quickly become among the group of people who I really enjoy their ‘tweets’. They are @MichaelHyatt and his wife @GailHyatt, who both write blogs that I’ve come to enjoy reading. More

PattiPersonal
Man, it is hard to believe that another week has flown by again. Last week was busy though. The Legion Executive meeting was on Tuesday evening, I just barely made it in from Oshawa to chair that. Thankfully it wasn’t a long meeting.
Wednesday I spent most of the day cooking the meat for Friday night’s Roast Beef dinner at the branch. The roasts were about 25lbs each. I figured about 4 – 4.5 hours to get them done, putting them on at about 9:30 figuring on getting them out around 1pm and having time to slip into Cobourg to do some errands. More

PattiPersonal dave devall, veteran, weather
Monday was a pretty productive day for me. I was able to spend most of the day finishing off tweaking the new look for this blog and then revamped It’s All About Money for a relaunch. There are still a few tweaks but then doesn’t any blog need a few tweaks. Right now, it is more important for me to get content into it.
While Ides of May (this blog) is where I right more personal material, It’s All About Money is where I share the online experience, specifically about online marketing. I have three other blogs that I’m planning on revamping and relaunching in the coming weeks. Yeah, I know, I have to be nuts
As is my usual practice when I’m here at home working on stuff. I generally watch Canada AM in the morning and then turn the TV off until 6pm when I turn on the news and settle in for the evening. One of the characters I always enjoy seeing on CTV News at 6pm is Dave Devall, the weatherman. More

PattiPersonal dinners, highway of heroes, neighbours, pool tournament, repatriation, snow fall, super bowl
Well, at the moment, the sun is out shining brightly. That is much nicer than what has been going on for what seems like the last week. Last Wednesday we had about a foot of snow in an all day snow fall.
Thursday we were supposed to get some ‘flurries’ which turned into about another foot of snow. Friday started off with flurries, just long enough to force me to cancel plans to attend a funeral and then settled down. Saturday more flurries brought another 6-7″ of the damn white stuff.
So far this winter, we’re only two months into it, we’ve had more snow than we had all of last winter and that was considered to be a high amount. February is not known for being light on snow. So, we have February and March to get through. More
